Nerd Olympics Event #2

The Brave Nerd Olympic team left it all on the rocks, their hearts, their strength, and plenty of skin from their palms, at the Windsor Rock Gym on September 26 as they competed in Event #2 of the Nerd Olympics hosted by WEtech Alliance.

All of the 16 teams competing put on incredibly impressive shows of strength and athleticism across all four of the evenings extremely fun challenges.

Up first for the Brave team was the Speed Traverse challenge, a relay race across a 25ft horizontal rock wall. Our team flew over the rocks with ease, clocking an impressive time of 1:17 with two time penalties added for touching the ground.

Next up was the Fingerboard hang, a true test of strength that saw each team member test their grip and arm strength and hold on for dear life in order to see which team could hang on the for the longest combined time. We rose to the challenge with Jim and Sarah managing to hang in close to the one minute mark, while Jacob and Moaaz hung in longer edging closer to the two minute mark. But there was little time to celebrate as they were up first in the third challenge…

The Dyno challenge! Each team member was given 3 attempts to complete a dynamic movement (a controlled jump and hold onto a hang that is out of reach). There were 6 different hangs to attempt, each progressively harder but worth more with the highest worth 7 points. Jim and Moaaz successfully completed two out their three attempts for the 3-point hold. Sarah completed two of her attempts on the 2-point hold, and Jacob completed two of his attempts on the 4-point hold.

At this point, our team was drained, mentally and physically, but they had to rally together for the final challenge of the night: the Friend Climb! Solve the bouldering problem while locking arms with a partner, leaving both of you effectively climbing the wall with one hand. Jim and Moaaz had successfully reached the top in practice but the night’s event left them exhausted, and only able to climb about ¾ of the way up. Jacob and Sarah, despite an impressive friend climb in tryouts made it halfway up the wall on their attempts.

Exhausted but proud of their personal accomplishments, our team kept their spirits high, convinced that they wouldn’t make the podium and eager to earn another spirit award. Nobody was more shocked than us when WEtech President Yvonne Pilon announced Brave Control Solutions team as the 2nd place winners for the evening!

Our team scored 1st place in the Speed Traverse, 1st place in the Fingerboard, 4th place in the Dyno challenge and 8th place in the Friend Climb! The night’s victory seats Brave tied for second place in the overall Nerd Olympic competition, tied with Pareto Business Group.

Brave would like to thank Windsor Rock Gym for being such great hosts, WorkForceWindsor Essex for providing the fuel for the competitors and of course WEtech Alliance for another great evening!

You better believe Brave is ready for the third event at Zap Zone!
