Nerd Olympics 2017 – Trampoline

This event was probably the most grueling and physically challenging event yet – even more so than last year’s Rock Climbing challenge which left one of our employee’s with a broken ankle.

We held a try-out for this event, and the try-out was so grueling that for 2 of the participants it came down to who DIDN’T want to participate in the challenge, rather than who did.

4 Events on trampolines PLUS a bonus challenge

DODGEBALL

Our first event of the evening!

We struck out in our round robin, winning the first round but losing the second and were knocked out of competition.
Maybe because it was our first event and we hadn’t warmed up properly. Who knows. We couldn’t let it bring us down. We had a job to do!

We took the loss in stride and moved on to the next  challenge…

DUNK CONTEST

Each member of the team gets 3 chances to dunk.

You can pick the low, medium or high net for consecutively more points.

Our awesome girls Sarah and Danielle landed all 3 dunks on the medium net to rack up the points.

Andrew and team Captain Matt went after the big points on the high net!

SLAMMED!

FOAM PIT RELAY

In our tryout this was the event we all dreaded. It seems easy enough, dive into the foam pit, crawl across as fast as you can, touch the wall and come back, then the next teammate goes. A simple relay race. Except crawling through foam cubes is anything BUT easy. Luckily we had plenty of time to discuss strategy as we waited for another team’s 4th member to arrive with a new pair of pants after ripping his earlier in the competition.

The strategy of crawling lightly and quickly on top of the foam worked and we crushed the other 3 teams.

One final event to go

JOUST

This was the event we were waiting for. 4 opponents from 4 different teams stand on a podium while also balancing on an inflatable exercise dome. Last one standing wins.

We tried a couple of different strategies. Most ended in failure. Only one member of our team managed to make it to the second round. Our resident black belt and combat expert Danielle managed to survive by forming an alliance with the other women on the podium to take out the men. Her superior balance enabled her to remain the last woman standing and advance to the championship.

Her black belt, however, did little to stand up to the hulking men of Next Dimension and she was wiped out early in the championship round.

BONUS POINT

For an extra bonus point, all you had to do was a choreographed routine on the trampoline. Luckily our team was prepared with ‘THE PLAN’ a carefully calculated choreographed timed front flip.

Our training and planning paid off with a third place podium finish for us! Not bad!
