Nerd Olympics Event #1

On Tuesday September 13, we sent 4 of Brave’s nerdiest to Silver Tee Golf Center for the Opening Ceremonies and first event of the WEtech Alliance NERD OLYMPICS!

Organized and run by WETech Alliance, a local organization dedicated to fostering innovation and entrepreneurship in the Windsor-Essex and Chatham-Kent tech communities, the Nerd Olympics brings together local technology companies to compete in a series of exciting games and challenges to see who will reign supreme.

Luke Norman, Sarah Kwiatkowski, Danielle Bouteiller and Jacob Prodan all represented Brave proudly (and loudly), sporting our Brave colors in the form of custom ringer tees and thick rimmed glasses. In a full night of intense competition, we managed to win 3 out of a total of 4 challenges, defeating our opponents in virtual baseball, basketball and zombie dodgeball and falling short on the virtual hockey shoot-out against a super competitive team from Radix Inc.

Our combined point totals in all events for the evening landed us an admirable 7th place finish out of a pool of 16 teams. A podium finish earns a team a custom 3D printed medal as well as points that count toward winning the overall competition with 1st, 2nd and 3rd place receiving 4, 3, and 2 points respectively.

Although we missed a spot on the podium, our over the top outfits, enthusiasm, and displays of sportsmanship amongst not just our own team but to the other teams as well, netted us the coveted SPIRIT AWARD! The SPIRIT AWARD is awarded for each event to the team that displays the most enthusiasm, sportsmanship and embracing of their nerdiness. The award is worth 1 point in the overall competition, which puts us up in a tie for 4th place with Radix Inc. (thanks to a mix-up in announcing the TRUE winner of the SPIRIT AWARD).

Many thanks to WEtech Alliance, Motor City Community Credit Union for sponsoring the Opening Ceremonies and to  Silver Tee Golf Centre for hosting a fantastic evening. Congratulations to the winning teams! See you all again at Windsor Rock Gym on September 26 for Event #2!
